Good news! We’re very pleased to report that our Nashville area health center is now offering in-office abortion procedures.
You may recall that last year we opened our fourth location in Mt. Juliet, TN in order to address the lack of abortion providers and unmet need in the Nashville area. Within 48 hours of opening, city commissioners held an emergency session and unanimously passed a rezoning rule which requires clinics that offer “surgical abortion” to be located exclusively in industrial zoning districts. This law forced us to turn away many clients who did not qualify for an abortion with pills so we teamed up with the ACLU and Willkie Farr & Gallagher and took them to court.
On May 1st, a federal court issued an injunction in our lawsuit and by May 11 we had served our first clients with in-office abortion procedures.
There’s still much work to be done to protect abortion access in the United States. carafem is proud to partner with firms like the ACLU working to protect access to abortion care across the nation, but mostly in the south where access is most threatened. We’re committed to doing what it takes to keep doors open and expand care virtually, and we couldn’t do it without your support.
