Abortion

Giveaway: #10-Week-After-Pill

Hi there! You may notice that we’ve updated the effective range of the abortion pill from 10 weeks to 11 weeks on our website. That’s because current research shows that the abortion pill is effective up to 11 weeks. If you have any questions, give us a call at (855) SAY-CARA.

You may have seen the news that WMATA has barred carafem from advertising the abortion pill on Metro trains and in stations — despite the fact that our proposed ads adhere to WMATA’s advertising policy.

As the Washington Post pointed out, Metro’s advertising guidelines clearly state that “medical and health-related messages will be accepted only from government health organizations, or if the substance of the message is currently accepted by the American Medical Association and/or the Food and Drug Administration.”

The abortion pill is, of course, both FDA-approved and accepted by the American Medical Association — and, though Metro cites no “issue-based” ads as the reason for denying our campaign — carafem is a healthcare provider, not an advocacy group. We’re simply trying to advertise a safe, legal, extremely common health service — much like many of the other ads Metro runs every day.

Obviously, we’re not taking no for an answer. So what’s “Plan B” for our 10-Week-After Pill ads? Bus shelters, which are controlled by a separate entity — and a billboard truck, plastered with the ad, that we’ll proudly drive around DC starting today throughout Inauguration weekend!

Parked outside WMATA headquarters in downtown DC.

Headed to DC for the Women’s March tomorrow? We’d love for you to take photos of our bus shelter ads if you see them (located around the city), and, if you spot it, the billboard truck — and send them out to the masses on Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook using the hashtag #10WeekAfterPill.

Send us a photo of one of our bus ads or the billboard truck with the hashtag #10WeekAfterPill and we’ll send YOU a carafem Eos lip balm! One lucky participant will even get a complete “cara-package” complete with lip balm, sunglasses, carafem pins and stickers, a pair of unisex “Pro Choice Pride” underwear, and the choice of a gray or pink “unapologetic” t-shirt. 10 people will be randomly selected to receive a carafem EOS lip balm

One person will be randomly selected to receive the complete cara-package on January 31st, 2017. The recipient will be announced via Twitter

Let’s show Metro we won’t give up without a fight — and that trustworthy abortion services deserve just as much air time as any other health-related issue.
